Mulanje-based side, Fomo, will face Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve in the semifinal of the Thumbs Up Southern Region Football Association after winning its case against Changalume Barracks.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam)’s Disciplinary Committee made the ruling on Saturday following Fomo’s appeal.
Initially, Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) had awarded their Premier Division quarterfinal match to Changalume as Fomo were accused of featuring two ineligible players when they defeated the soldiers 1-0.
Fomo were accused of fielding Ratiph Chande and Sammy Harry illegally, which forced Changalume to complain to SRFA.
However, Fam overturned SRFA’s ruling after finding Fomo not guilty of the offence.
Fomo spokesperson Kaziputa Butao hailed Fam for the ruling, saying justice has prevailed.
“The case has enlightened us that we must follow rules and regulations. The sports fraternity needs to be on guard against such malpractices,” Butao said.
He said Fomo’s supporters should rally behind the team in their quest to earn promotion to the elite league.
Meanwhile, SRFA Chairperson Raphael Humba has confirmed that Fomo will take on Bullets Reserve on January 19. “The case has been settled amicably by Fam. This shows that we follow rules and regulations,” Humba said.
