Football Association of Malawi (Fam) will not buy a luxury coach for the Flames as previously planned, but will now purchase a 36-seaster coaster.

Fam executive committee meeting held on Saturday at Chiwembe, resolved to shelve plans to buy a bus after getting a donation of the same from South Africa Football Association (Safa).

The association’s general secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, confirmed the development Sunday.

Fam wanted to use K75 million from the bonus it got from Fifa last year, to buy the luxury bus.

“Executive committee has resolved to purchase a 36-seater coaster instead of a bus and the balance will go towards national team engagements,” Nyirenda said.

The donation from Safa and the 36-seater which Fam wants to buy will mark the end of the Flames’ travel problems.

In the past, cash strapped Fam had to hire a bus spending millions of kwachas in the process.

The donation, which arrived last week, is one of the several buses that were used by teams during the South Africa 2010 World Cup which was won by Spain.

Safa first announced about the decision to share the World Cup legacy about two years ago.

Initially, Fam wanted the Flames to use the bus to travel to Zambia for an international friendly against Chipolopolo.

However, the bus, which is parked at Malawi National Council of Sports offices, is yet to be cleared.

The bus features include; toilets, comfortable seats, TV, fridge and passenger address system amongst others.
