Football clubs to miss out on TNM Sapota Mapeto bonuses , fail to amass 300,000 sms
With only a month left to wrap up this season’s TNM Sapota Mapeto Promotion, none of Malawi’s 15 Super League football clubs has managed to hit the 300,000 SMS mark to earn the K1.5 million bonus that TNM dangled for the clubs at the beginning of the season.
According to statistics that TNM released on Tuesday, only league champions, Big Bullets, are closest to the 300,000 target after accumulating 228,614 SMS in the last five months.
Be Forward Wanderers are at a distant second with about 150,000 SMS hits in five months.
Epac have recorded the lowest hits—357.
Bullets now need about 72,000 SMS hits for the month of December, the final month of the promotion, to get the K1.5 million bonus, a task which is challenging considering that they only managed to hit 37,469 SMS hits in November.
Bullets earned K1.3 million in November and Wanderers were the second highest earners with K600,000 revenue.
“We surely want to hit the 300,000 SMS hits mark therefore we will encourage our fans to participate in the competition more.
We will sensitise our fans about the promotion in the remaining four games of the season. The money is important because it will help in running some operations for the club,” said Bullets’ vice-treasurer Alex Gondwe during the November draw at TNM headquarters in Blantyre on Tuesday.
Overall, the competition has managed to raise K13,263,845 for the teams in the five months.
TNM’s public relations and sponsorship manager Limbani Nsapato said the sponsors were hoping for a strong finish to the promotion.
“As we draw closer to the end of the season there is a lot of excitement among the fans. My plea is to rally the supporters to make use of the remaining month to make sure that they generate as much as they can for their clubs.
It is an opportunity for them to generate revenue for their teams so that they could keep the clubs running when the league is completed,” he said.
To enter the promotion, supporters have to send an SMS of their team’s code to 1515 using the TNM network.
The SMS costs K50 and K35 goes to the team.
TNM gives out several monthly prizes including K200,000 as incentives for the fans to participate in the promotion.
The winner for the K200,000 prize for November could not be reached as the phone was off both on Tuesday and Wednesday.
