Football fraternity mourns Kapangama

A dark cloud has engulfed the football fraternity following the death of former Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation (MBC) football commentator Elias Kapangama who passed away on Friday after a long illness.
His relatives confirmed that Kapangama died due to stroke. The remains of Kapangama were expected to be laid to rest yesterday at Chipinjika Village, Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi District.
Former Minister of Sports and football commentator, Moses Dossi, said Malawi has lost a great man.
“I am very saddened with his death. Malawi has lost a very talented person and he was one of the best football commentators. He was a great and a humble man. It is sad that we lost him,” Dossi said.
Well-known football commentator, Steve Liwewe Banda, said it was a great loss.
“It is very sad that we lost one of the legends in football commentary. I was inspired by Kapangama and Pearson Chunga not forgetting late Dennis Liwewe. The pair of Kapangama and Chunga was the best because they worked great passion,” Liwewe said.
Kapangama worked as football commentator at MBC together with Chunga. Born in 1941, Kapangama is survived by two children and five grandchildren.
The soccer fraternity is also still mourning Steve Msambila who was until his death Silver Strikers board member. His remains were laid to rest on Thursday at Mitundu, Lilongwe.
