Football Kenya boss accused of defrauding national team coffers
The Director of Public Prosecution has been asked to charge Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chairman Sam Nyamweya with fraud for conspiring to defraud Sh17.2 million meant for the national team’s trip to Cape Verde last month.
Mr Keriako Tobiko on Monday said he had also received recommendations to charge Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo with incitement and whipping up tribal emotions respectively.
The recommendation to put Mr Nyamweya in the dock came from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations while the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) wants Mr Kerrow and Mr Kabogo to be put on trial.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has also asked Mr Tobiko to charge the business people behind the loss of Sh797 million from the National Youth Service.
KRA wants Mr Ben Gethi and Ms Josphine Kabura Irungu to be prosecuted under the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act and Anti-Money Laundering Act with tax evasion charges.
In a statement to media houses, Mr Tobiko said he had received four files recommending the prosecutions and promised to act swiftly on the reports.
“The files shall be independently reviewed and decisions thereon made shortly based on evidence and the law,” he said.
Mr Nyamweya was investigated over the appropriation of Sh17.2 million, which was released by the government to finance Harambee Stars’ trip to Cape Verde for a World Cup qualifying match. – Daily Nation Kenya
