Organisers of Forde Traditional and World Music Festival which is held in Norway every year have set up a concert to be held next month.

The concert comes barely a month after organisers announced that the Forde Traditional and World Music Festival 2020 has been cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Organisers have since said that this year’s programme of the festival has been postponed to 2021 from July 7 -11.

Together with Music Norway, Forde Traditional and World Music Festival organisers, said the concert will be followed by a virtual mingling session.

The festival’s Communications Manager, Torill Faleide, said the concert will present the Norwegian band Morgonrode with Helga Myhr (Hardanger fiddle and vocals), Selma French Bolstad (key harp, Hardanger fiddle and vocals), Rasmus Kjorstad (octavefiddle) , Fredrik Luhr Dietrichson (double bass) and Andreas Skår Winther (percussion).

The concert will take place in the beautiful surroundings in the barn at Fjordamattunet in Jølster.

The Festival Director, Per Idar Almas, recently said postponing this year’s programme to 2021 means that all artists, who were programmed this year, have been given the opportunity to perform at the festival next year.

The festival has played a crucial role in giving a platform to different artists including from Africa to showcase the best of traditional instruments.

Last year some of the artists that performed at the festival include Senegalese Sekou Keita.

In 2016, the country saw its young artists Patrick Chimbewa, Thokozani Mdoko and Asante Maulidi participate at the festival in a Talent project.

The three artists participated in a workshop before performing at the festival in a collaboration that also featured artists from Norway and Kenya.

The Talent Project has since been phased out.
