Foreign players flood Super League
Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Max Bullets have been the busiest teams on the market as transfer window was about to close yesterday.
Wanderers have reportedly signed two players from Nigeria whereas MTV Max Bullets were also desperate to conclude the deals for three Nigerian players.
Nomads already have Nigerian striker Amos Bello and Japanese Forward Genki Nakamura in their squad.
In an interview on Tuesday, Nomads General Secretary, Mike Butao, confirmed that the clubs were in the process of completing the transfers of two players from the West African nation.
Butao said the two players will join Wanderers from Lagos Athletico on loan for the rest of the season.
“We have signed a striker and a winger. They are quality players and they play for Nigeria Under-23 national team,” Butao said.
According to Butao, the striker was on loan at one of the Qatar clubs recently.
Butao said the club has already received International Transfer Certificate (ITC). It means Wanderers will have four foreign players in their squad this season.
On his part, Max Bullets owner, Maxwell Kapanda, asked for more time before commenting on the matter.
However, the team’s sponsor Elvis Nserebo, said they had already agreed terms with the Nigerian players.
“The deals for two players are almost done. We are still waiting to complete the other deals. The idea is to strengthen the side to avoid relegation trap. We feel international players will help us achieve our goal,” he said.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Transfer Matching System Manager, Casper Jangale, was not available for comment yesterday.
However, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) General Secretary, Williams Banda, insisted that no transfer was completed by Tuesday.
“Anything can happen before midnight, so let’s wait,” he said yesterday.
Despite having a star-studded squad, Nomads struggled in the first round having finished on position seven with 24 points whereas Max are stuck at the bottom of the log table with seven points from 15 games.
Meanwhile, as we went to press, Wanderers officials were discussing the future on nine players including Patrick Gunde, Sparrow Msowoya, Luka Milanzie Elia Munthali, Khumbo Ng’ambi and Kondwani Lufeyo.
Sources indicate that Gunde and Msowoya will be released while Munthali and Ng’ambi might be loaned.
The source said Milazi he is currently on loan from TP Mazembe, so he might go back to his club.
