Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) agents Thursday arrested Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) former director general Godfrey Itaye on suspicion that he abused office.
Earlier Thursday, the Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate Court issued a warrant of arrest for him.
The warrant of arrest, dated January 13 2022, indicates that he faces abuse of office charges, in line with Section 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act.
“Godfrey Itaye while serving as a public officer, being Director General for Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority, in or around 29th January 2018, in the Republic abused his office by offering employment to Mr Daniel Datchi on the position of Revenue Assurance Manager for the advantage of the said Daniel Datchi when he did not have the necessary qualifications,” it reads.
A source at ACB confided in The Daily Times that the graft-busting body had obtained the warrant of arrest while a senior police officer in Blantyre confirmed that he was in their custody, after being referred to the law enforcers by ACB officials.
