Former Silver Strikers general secretary eyes Sulom post

Former Silver Strikers general secretary, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, has expressed interest to contest for the post of Super League of Malawi (Sulom) legal advisor.
The post fell vacant after Mohamad Selemani was elected Football Association of Malawi (Fam) executive member during polls held in Mangochi on December 14 last year.
Chakaka Nyirenda confirmed the development in an interview on Tuesday.
“I am vying for the Sulom vacant position of legal advisor,” Nyirenda said in a written message.
He served Silver for more than two years and stepped aside to pursue further studies in the United Kingdom.
The Super League governing body is expected to fill the vacant post during an Annual General Meeting (AGM) expected to take place before the season kicks off.
Sulom Vice General Secretary, Zacharia Nyirenda, said the committee was yet to discuss the matter.
“I can only provide information after the executive committee meeting. I cannot tell exactly when we will fill the vacant post,” Nyirenda said.
But it is likely that the AGM would take place not later than March as the country’s football season usually commences in April.
The current Sulom office bearers were elected last year with Tiya Somba-Banda winning the contest for the presidency unopposed whereas Gilbert Mitawa was elected vice president.
Williams Banda retained his post as General Secretary whereas Nyirenda was elected his vice.
Chimwemwe Nyirenda, Allie Mwachande, Henry Banda and Michael Chimayere were elected as committee members.
