Four performances for Agorosso in Hungary

Singer and guitarist Agorosso left for South Africa Wednesday to process his visa and then later fly to Budapest, Hungary where he is set to hold close to four performances.

Agorosso, who said he is excited to perform in Hungary for the first time and sell Malawi, has found himself on this trip courtesy of Hungarian Trade and Cultural Centre, which opened its offices in Limbe recently.

Hungarian Trace and Cultural Centre Coordinator Csaba confirmed yesterday that Agorosso had left by bus for South Africa to process his visa and that from there he will fly to Hungary.

“We are happy that he is going to represent Malawi in Hungary. He is a musician who has exceptional talent and this is why we selected him. He left this morning (yesterday) for Johannesburg, South Africa,” said Csaba.

Csaba said during the Lake of Stars Festival Blantyre launch party last Friday where Agorosso also performed that Agorosso’s main performance is on May 28 during the Africa Day Festival adding that the event brings together African artists.

“‘The celebration is held annually and is honorary to African traditions, customs and the way of life in general. So we invite different artists from across Africa to portray the richness of their culture. In Malawi we thought of taking Agorosso because he is exceptional and the jewelry of Malawi,” said Csaba.

He said besides the African Day event, the artist from Lower Shire district of Nsanje has also been booked for other three venues in Budapest.

“Agorosso will have a privilege to perform in a ship called 838 which is named as the number one underground concert venue in all Hungary by a New York Magazine, so this is a great achievement for him,’ revealed Csaba.

Agorosso said he has prepared well for the Hungary trip and that he will not disappoint the country.

“My purpose of going there is to sell Malawi and through my music I will display what Malawi is all about from talking about our beautiful Lake Malawi to Mulanje Mountain and our traditional dances and language,” said Agorosso, whose real name is Lloyd Phaundi.

The artist has since recorded three songs with a full band ‘Ulemu Chabe,’ ‘Chenjera,’ and a new version of ‘Africa,’ which he will perform there.

His manager Luc Deschamps said he wants to make sure that Agorosso makes it big stressing that the European audience will love his songs. He said that four performances have already been confirmed.

“I am really working hard to break the European market; in the meantime we are shooting videos, posting his music on Youtube and his events on the social media to make sure he gains popularity because even in Malawi he is not famous although his music is remarkable,” said Deschamps, who is also the French Honorary Consul in Malawi.

Agorosso, who scooped an award for Best Soundtrack in the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for his sound track in Shemu Joyah’s movie The Last Fishing Boat is also expected to perform at this year’s Lake of Stars Festival to be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi from September 25-27.
