Players Association of Malawi (Fpam) has set March 1 2018 as the deadline for registering players for Super League clubs.
Fpam General Secretary, Ernest Mangani, has disclosed the deadline, a week after the association met Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Executive Committee.
Mangani said Fpam took advantage of a Club Licensing System meeting which Football Association of Malawi (Fam) hosted for Super League clubs at Mpira Village in Blantyre on January 20.
Mangani said, during the meeting, all stakeholders agreed to finish registering players by March 1.
“We have dispatched registration forms to all Super League teams with the hope that, by the end of February, they would be able to finish handling players’ contracts.
“We had a chance to do a one-hour presentation during the meeting, telling the clubs the importance of Fpam and its agenda. So, we are happy with the response from the clubs, and we are assured that this will work for the betterment of Malawi football,” Mangani said.
He added that Modern Education and Training Institute (Meti), an organisation that has partnered Fpam to provide education skills to footballers, has asked for a list of players that possess Malawi School Certificate of Education.
Meti wants the players to enrol for tertially courses scheduled for April.
Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, said clubs will support the initiative by meeting the deadline.
“We met Fpam and it was a fruitful meeting. We will give them all the support as we are in touch with clubs directly,” Banda said.
Banda said the formation of Fpam will ease the pressure on clubs when it comes to players’ welfare.
Other partners for Fpam are Nico Insurance, Goodwill Funeral Services, Medical Aid Society of Malawi and Old Mutual Malawi Limited.
