Lilongwe-based businessman, Andrew Makupete, bought Fr. Augustine Kaliu’s auctioned DVD at K500,000 during the launch held at Chigoneka Parish in Lilongwe on Sunday.
Makupete owns a panel beating company, a car hire, hotel and farm in Mchinji.
The hall turned into a dancing arena when Kaliu went on stage and played his famous song, ‘Chimsonkhano’.
At one point, Sir Paul Banda and Alleluya Band went on stage to back Kaliu.
Banda and Kaliu played some of the songs in the new album, before Paul took patrons down the memory lane when he played tracks such as ‘Malilime’ and ‘Ndidzatamanda Ambuye’.
Kaliu was grateful for the support rendered to him.
“I am thankful for the support. Being a debut album, it was overwhelming,” Kaliu, who disclosed that he is working on a single titled ‘Welcome to Malawi’, said.
