Flames attacking midfielder Francisco Madinga came off the bench to score the winner as Dila Gori defeated Telavi 2-1 in Erovnuli Liga at Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium in Georgia on Monday.
According to www.sofascore.com, the Malawian replaced Makatsaria in the 59th minute before scoring the winner in the 85th minute.
The former Mighty Wanderers midfielder tapped in the ball after Telavi goalkeeper had fumbled.
In an interview from Gori Tuesday, Madinga, revealed his delight after scoring his first goal of the season.
“It feels great to score and help my team collect three points. It was a difficult match. I hope there are more good things for me,’’ he said.
This could be good news for the Flames star as he is looking at reclaiming his place in the starting line-up.
The Malawian has struggled for game time since he returned to Georgia from Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon.
Madinga was one of the star-performers for the Flames at the Afcon finals. He provided two assists for striker Gabadinho Mhango in a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe.
Former Flames midfielder Sherry Msuku was proud of Madinga’s exploits in Georgia.
“This is good for the player and the country. We need all players to be in form ahead of the qualifiers,” he said.
Madinga is expected to be a key player for the Flames during the upcoming 2023 Afcon qualifiers.
