Franco Ndawa gets Civil backing

By Mabvuto Kambuwe:

Struggling Civil Sporting Club have backed under-fire Coach Franco Ndawa, saying they have not reached crisis levels despite losing five consecutive games in the TNM Super League this season.

Civil’s woes went from bad to worse after a 0-1 loss to Be Forward Wanderers at Civo Stadium on Sunday, a week after also losing by the same margin to TN Stars at the same venue.

The Civil Servants also lost 6-0 to Nyasa Big Bullets, 1-0 to Mighty Tigers and 2-1 to Silver Strikers.

But Civil General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, said there was no need to panic as the team would soon bounce back.

“We do not want to point fingers at the technical panel. We still have faith in them. It is just a bad patch that we are going through. The team is playing well but luck has been eluding us,” Chiwaula said.

Civil Team Manager Gabriel Chirwa appealed for patience from the fans, saying they would turn the corner soon.

“The players are committed and playing good football but the sad part is that we are losing games. We just need to get a win to bring back the players’ confidence,” Chirwa said.

Civil are on position 12 on the log table with nine points from eight games after claiming maximum points in the three opening games of the season before a sudden change of fortunes.

Their next opponents are Ntopwa on Sunday at Civo Stadium.

Before the start of the season, Civil were one of the busiest teams on the transfer market, having signed seasoned players such as Dan Kumwenda, Timothy Chitedze, Blessings Kameza, Emmanuel Zoya and Damiano Kunje.
