Fredokiss Kalua wants to bring change

Urban musician Fredo Penjani Kalua better known as Fredokiss has said that he would want to do more with music by addressing social issues.

The musician has been deemed controversial but some quarters but Fredokiss, who is a University of Malawi graduate said he is not controversial but rather his music delves into real issues affecting the society.

“I have heard people saying I am controversial but I find that to be subjective. One thing that is for sure is that most of my music addresses social issues that are usually relevant,” he said.

Fredokiss has just released a single titled ‘Zautsiru,’ through which he intends to bring the change.

“Music is a powerful vehicle used to change things. As youths we have a responsibility to use our various talents to bring about change,” he said.

He said ‘Zautsiru,’ is a song which is off his upcoming album stressing that it is discussing issues from a frustrated young person’s point of view.

“There are several challenges that young people are facing and have not been tackled but this song is looking into all this,” said Fredokiss.

Apart from music, Fredokiss has also established what is called The Ghetto Shoulder Initiative which he said was started with an aim of reaching out to marginalised groups in the society.

“I started this to reach out to marginalised groups of our society. It’s a non-profit making organisation which brings together young people for a good cause and we want to get as many young people to be involved,” said the artist.

With several singles to his credit, Fredokiss said he will continue to maintain his brand of music.

“I have my own style of music and this is the same style I want to maintain. I want to grow my music and for those who have listened to ‘Zautsiru,’ then they will attest that I am growing,” he said.

Fredokiss started music in 2003 in a group before going solo and went to release songs ‘Woza,’ and ‘Basi.
