Free memorial show on Sunday

It’s that time again when Malawians from all walks of life trek to Chileka to be part of the late Evison Matafale Memorial show organised by Black Missionaries.

This is an annual free memorial show which apart from remembering late Matafale, it also celebrates the lives of other fallen artists from Chileka including Gift and Musamude Fumulani.

The memorial will be held at Mankhokwe ground on Sunday.

And Blacks lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani said they were ready for the memorial and called on people to come in large numbers and celebrate the lives of the fallen artists.

“People should come and enjoy reggae vibes. We have several artists performing and this is all to celebrate the talent and the lives of late Evison Matafale, Gift, Musamude and other fallen artists,” As we went to press Anjiru said they were still talking to the authorities on the venue he said.

Apart from Black Missionaries and the other Chileka crew, some of the artists that will perform at the memorial, are Skeffa Chimoto, Lambanie Dube, Nepman and Skeffa Chimoto.

This year, the memorial has been strengthened by pre-memorial shows which started in Mzuzu yesterday with the revived Wailing Brothers led by Chokani brothers of Paul and Takudziwani headlining.

And Team Entertainers has also organised another pre-memorial show at Motel Paradise in Blantyre which will feature several acts.

Entertainers Promotions’ boss Jai Banda better known as Mr Entertainer, who is slowly leaving the ground to his son Tonderai, said they thought of adding a spark to the memorial by having a pre-show.

“We are hyping up the memorial show on Sunday and so we thought we should have a pre-memorial and as usual this is a phungwe,” said Jai.

Some of the artists that will perform at the pre-memorial show include Black Missionaries, Anthony Makondetsa, Khozie Masimbe, Toza Matafale, Yanjanani Chumbu, Moda Fumulani, Lucius Banda and Lambanie Dube.

Jai also said that people will have a chance to sample a performance by Ben Mankhamba.
