French Schools Drama grand finale next year

The 32nd edition of the French Schools Drama Festival grand finale will be held on March 14 next year in Blantyre, coordinator of the contest, Poya Chapweteka, said Thursday.
He revealed the date for the grand finale ahead of the regional finals that will be Saturday with 20 schools participating.
“Two schools from each region will qualify for the grand finale. Those who will qualify on Saturday [tomorrow] will travel to Blantyre on March 13 for the finale on March 14,” Chapweteka said.
He said all the 20 schools were ready for the competition which this year is running under the theme ‘Climate Change’.
The defending champions of the competition are Jacaranda School for Orphans. The school has won the contest back to back.
Last year French Ambassador to Malawi and Zimbabwe, Richard Boidin, who was the guest of honour announced that the best actor and actress in this edition will fly to France.
The event in the Northern Region will be held at Mzuzu University and the schools participating are Euthini Girls, Katoto, Kaseghe Girls and Marymount.
In the Central Region, the contest will be held at Likuni Boys in Lilongwe and the schools participating are Likuni Boys, Chipasula Private, Darlo Girls, Dedza, Dzaleka, Good Shepherd International, Kasungu and Robert Blake.
In the Southern Region, the event will be held at Zingwangwa Secondary School in Blantyre and will feature schools such as Jacaranda, Joyce Banda, Malosa, Njamba, St Patricks and Zomba Catholic.
“It’s exciting this year as well because we have more schools but also at the same time more new schools and so the battle is on. It is all about promoting arts but also the speaking of French,” Chapweteka said.
French teacher at Kasungu Secondary School, Grant Benga, said they were prepared for the competition.
“The theme is very relevant to what is happening in Malawi and the whole world in relation to climate change and students have learnt a lot on the theme,” Benga said.
This will be the first time for Kasungu Secondary School to participate in the competition. The other schools that will be making first outings include Euthini, Good Shepherd and Njamba.
