By Isaac Salima:
Some concerned Nyasa Big Bullets fans have written the team’s supporters national committee to announce the dates of elections to enable aspirants to prepare.
The term of the current supporters executive committee expires next month but it is not known whether the polls will be held.
The disgruntled supporters also do not want Nyasa Manufacturing Company to handpick the supporters’ director but let candidates tussle for the seat which automatically empowers the winner to be in Bullets’ board by virtue of being supporters director.
According to a letter, dated January 10 2021 and signed by 53 supporters from zones, the fans are not amused with a decision which was made by their national committee not to hold elections to elect national supporters’.
“To our surprise this was communicated by the supporters’ chairperson and not Nyasa Manufacturing Company. We, concerned supporters, thereby question legality of nominating club chairperson and why has the constitution not been amended,” the letter reads.
The supporters have therefore called for an interface with the national committee within 14 days (from January 10 2021) to discuss the issue.
They have threatened that if their demand is not met, they will call for an emergency general meeting to elect an interim supporters committee.
The team’s chairperson Stone Mwamadi has been on the position since 2017.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said they had not seen the letter and further said they were yet to get direction from the team’s board on dates for the elections.
“The board is yet to meet to discuss the issue; so, we cannot talk about it because it is the board only that can make a decision,”
But Mwamadi described the supporters’ action as very surprising.
“My four-year term in office expires next month and I made it clear that I am not standing again and I am surprised that these people are doing this. Actually I am the one who informed authorities that our term is coming to an end and about the need to have supporters election. But I understand because these are disgruntled people who are not happy with what we have done like abolishing supporters’ cut in gate collections,” Mwamadi said.
One of the interested candidates Beleti ‘Billy One’ Sevele said the supporters had the right to know the dates for elections.
“How can we prepare for elections when we do not know the dates for the elections? We were supposed to be advised by now so that we should start campaigning,” he said.
Bullets went commercial some four years ago after being acquired by Nyasa Manufacturing Company. The team only elects supporters national committee as senior officials of the team are employed by the company.
