Fukani Gani and Carol Banda won the TNM Smart Data golf tournament played at Mlambe Golf Club in Mangochi District on Saturday.
Gani scored 39 points to emerge winner in men’s category, whereas Banda won the championship in ladies’ section with 28 points.
Banda, who has largely played second fiddle to Rosa Mbilizi, was visibly on cloud nine when she was declared winner. The tournament attracted 108 golfers.
“It feels good to be the winner. As much as I didn’t expect to win, I prepared to play and started off well and my shots were going straight. It is at this point that I realised that I would win the championship as most participants were struggling,” said Banda, who just like other winners in both categories, received TNM E-wimax internet routers.
This was the second time for the mobile service provider to host golfers at Mlambe golf course under the sponsorship of Smart Data, TNM”s bouquet of mobile internet services.
The company’s chief commercial officer, Dan Makata, said last Saturday’s individual stablefold tee-off was part of TNM’s commitment to engage corporate entities and individual customers through Smart Data.
“The Smart Data revolution that TNM is pioneering in Malawi is about providing customers with a convenient, high-speed mobile internet. We want to make this tournament an annual event and we hope to be here next year. Today’s overwhelming participation has really encouraged us,” Makata said.
