Fundraising show for Malimba Band drummer
Blantyre-based Malimba Band drummer Stanley Jere is in dire need of over K4 million to undergo an operation for a knee problem at Beit Cure International.
Due to the knee problem which he says developed following an infection, Jere has not been performing for months now.
“I am the bread winner, my family depends on me and music is the career that is giving me money to feed my family. But now with my leg problem I cannot perform for now,” said Jere.
It is in this vein that the drummer has organised a fundraising show this Sunday at Robin’s Park in Blantyre which will feature several performances.
Jere said yesterday that all was set for the fundraising concert which will see gospel and secular artists sharing the stage.
However, reggae group Black Missionaries were billed to perform by the organisers but Anjiru Fumulani said yesterday that they will not be available.
“Stanley Jere is our friend and when the organising team was designing a poster they did not know that we have another show in Lilongwe so they could not change it I guess. We will not be there but we will assist him in our own way,” said Anjiru.
Jere said he has been to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) for several times where he was told after X-ray that he has a problem of Arthritis.
“Actually I have been visiting QECH because the problem was getting worse and it was then that friends raised some money for me to go to Beit Cure International for consultation,” said the drummer.
According to the quotation which Jere got at Beit Cure, he is expected to undergo an operation with the first phase costing over K1.7 million with the second phase amounting to over K1.3 million.
“I do not have this kind of money with me and this is why I am asking well wishers to help me. It is even a problem for me now because I am not performing, at least when I was performing I was making some money,” he said.
Jere added that he is one of the few left-footed drummers in the country and that the knee problem affected the same leg.
“I want to get back to the stage. For those who would like to assist me, they can contact me on my number 0993612269 or my mother’s number 0999132772,” he said.
Jere has performed with several bands in the country and they include Body, Mind and Soul, Mapale, Kaligo Melodies and Lulu’s Mathumela Band.
Most of the artists who will perform at the fundraising show have performed with Jere through Malimba Band.
