G.Y unveils ladies’ basketball team
Lilongwe sister companies, G. Y Imports and Exports and Dr Print, on Monday unveiled sponsorship for a ladies’ basketball team, Lady Brave Hearts.
The sponsorship was unveiled at a colourful ceremony held at African Bible College (ABC) in Lilongwe.
The launch comes four months after G.Y Imports and Exports unveiled a sponsorship package for a men’s team, Brave Hearts, formerly Rejects.
Lady Brave Hearts, formerly Lady Bayonets, will be officially financed by Dr Print, whereas G.Y Imports and Exports will fund the men’s basketball side.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Dr Print Chief Executive Officer, Daudi Hussein, said the sponsorship was aimed at developing the sport at all levels.
“We are committed and dedicated to promoting basketball at all levels. We were compelled to sponsor the ladies’ team after we learnt that they were struggling to find sponsorship,” Hussein explained.
“We will assemble a pool of talented players and we are confident that Brave Hearts will be one of the best basketball teams in the country.”
Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) general secretary, Edgar Ng’ong’ola, hailed Dr Print for sponsorship the ladies’ team, saying it would help bridge the gender gap in the sport
As part of the launch, Brave Hearts (men’s) beat Bayonets 67 -57, whereas All Stars (ladies) defeated Lady Brave Hearts 59-46.
G.Y Imports and Exports are suppliers of stationery, ICT equipment, furniture and household items, while Dr Print are specialists in printing of T-shirts, advertising banners, fliers and other printing services
