Flame’s striker Gabadihno Mhango has set his sights on winning South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) this season after grabbing a brace on Tuesday night.
He came off the bench to score a double as Bidvest Wits trounced Ajax Cape Town 5-0 at Milpark Stadium in Johanesburg through Phakamani Mahlambi, James Keene and Captain Thulani Hlatshwayo’s goals.
Mhango is now the leading Malawian scorer in the PSL with five goals, one above compatriot Robert Ng’ambi whereas Atusaye Nyondo has a single goal this season.
Mhango faces a daunting task to overtake current PSL leading scorer, Zimbabwean Tendai Ndoro of Orlando Pirates who has 11 goals.
In an interview from South Africa yesterday, Mhango said he was delighted with his display.
“I am really happy to score two goals. I will work hard to fight for the top goal scorer award and also help my team to compete for championship,” Mhango said.
Wits claimed top spot with 28 points from 14 games, one point above Cape Town City FC, who have played two games more.
Kaizer Chiefs are third with 27 points from 16 games.
Last season, Mhango scored five goals while on loan at Golden Arrows.
In his debut season in 2013 while playing for Bloemfontein Celtic, Mhango finished as the second top scorer with nine goals, two behind Bernard Parker.
He won Celtic’s Golden Boot Award and Celtic Players’ Player of-the Season Award.
