The goal was Mhango’s third in three matches after he scored a brace in Pirates’ 2-1 win over Stellenbosch in a pre-season friendly.

“Pirates increased their cushion seven minutes later when Mhango intercepted a back-pass from the near side to finish beyond Chaine to mark his official debut with a goal,” reported one of South Africa’s leading soccer publications, www. kickoff.com.

Pirates’ other goals came from Zambian Augustine Mulenga and Innocent Maela whereas Mzwanele Mahashe scored for Celtic.

Two other new Pirates signings, Siphensile Ndlovu and Fortune Makaringe, also made their debuts during the match.

In a recent interview with Sport 24, the former Big Bullets goal poacher promised to help the Buccaneers to win silverware with his goals.

“I am always ready for any challenge. Since my first day here at Pirates, I have been talking to the coach Milutin Sredojevic. He told me he wants goals from me and that I am something they had been missing,” Mhango said.

Elsewhere, Mhango’s Flames compatriots Richard Mbulu and Gerald Phiri Jnr also made their debuts for Baroka in a 2-2 draw against Cape Town FC.

Mbulu provided the assist for one of Baroka’s goals, scored by Thandiso Patjie.
