Gabadinho Mhango hopeful after injury

Top Malawi national football team striker, Gabadinho Mhango, has downplayed the groin injury he picked during Orlando Pirates’ 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch on Wednesday night.

Mhango was substituted after the break in South Africa’s DStv Premier Soccer League match at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

Pirates Coach Zosef Zinnbauer made the substitution as a precautionary measure ahead of tomorrow’s MTN8 clash against bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

“Pirates subbed Mhango who struggled throughout the first half with a niggling injury,” reported News 24.

Zinnbauer said: “We have to see what happens with Gaba, he had an injury. But Lepasa made a good game, and Terrence after coming in.”

Mhango said Thursday he was hoping for a return to action soon.

“I am hoping that it is not serious. I am feeling alright right now. I have an appointment with the team doctor, so I will provide an update afterwards,” Mhango said.

The injury could be bad news for Pirates as they are without a win in two consecutive games this season.

Meanwhile, Bloemfontein Celtic’s Flames legend John Maduka suffered his first league loss since taking over in June.

Maduka failed to inspire his charges who lost 1-0 to Moroka Swallows on the same night.

Before the game, Maduka had guided Celtic to nine games without a loss.

Phunya Sele Sele only lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final.
