Malawi national football team striker Gabadinho Mhango registered his name on the scoresheet as his club Bidvest Wits thumped former team Bloemfontein Celtic 4-2 in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League on Friday.
This could be good news for the Flames as Mhango is expected to be part of the squad to face Morocco at Bingu National Stadium in a dead rubber 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this week.
The Malawian ended his goal drought in a move that could help him earn game-time.
“In the second half, Celtic finally succumbed to intense pressure from the visitors, who drew level courtesy of Mhango on 58 minutes before Deon Hotto hit the crossbar two minutes later,” reported www. kickoff.com.
Mhango has been on and off for his club and was on the verge of leaving in January.
Wits are second on the log table with 41 points from 24 games, behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played 23 games and have 43 points.
Mhango helped Wits to win the MTN 8 Cup two years ago, his first gold medal since moving down south in 2013.
He also had a brief spell on loan with Golden Arrows, where he also scored vital goals.
In his debut season at Celtic, Mhango won Celtic the players’ player of the season and top goal-scorer award.
