Flames and Orlando Pirates striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango scored the only goal of the match as the Buccaneers beat second-tier side Uthongathi 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Mhango’s goal helped Pirates book a place in the round of 16 of the competition.

The Malawian striker scored at the hour mark after he got an assist from Hotto.

Mhango was not readily available for his comment yesterday.

The former Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic star made history in his debut season at Pirates, having jointly with Namibian Peter Shalulile won the Dstv Premiership top goal-scorer award with 16 goals apiece.

In the league this season, Mhango has scored two goals after missing some games due to injuries and omission.

Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, after the match, was quoted in South Africa media as saying that it was a difficult match.

“You play against division team and it is a concentration thing for the players. But from us what’s important is that we are in the next round and that was the target,” Zinnbauer told www.goal.com.

Elsewhere, Flames defender Limbikani Mzava was on the winning side as AmaZulu FC progressed to the next round of the competition after beating Golden Arrows 5-4 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time.

Mzava featured for the Durban-based club and had a grand game.

John Maduka’s Bloemfontein Celtic exited the competition after a 4-0 loss to Cape Town FC on Saturday.

The Flames legend had guided Celtic to two cup finals last year, including the Ned Bank Cup where they lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns.
