The Flames forward Gabadinho Mhango has been named Brand Ambassador for Airtel Top 8 Football Cup which is set to kick off this weekend.
The South Africa’s Bidvest Wits forward was, in absentia, unveiled with a video message “Airtel Top 8 Football Comes Alive.”
Looking calm and composed, Airtel Malawi Marketing Director, Emmanuel Kasambala, announced the news in Lilongwe when the company also unveiled the glittering official Airtel Top 8 Trophy to create the hype ahead of the kick-off.
“The official Airtel Top 8 Trophy is the physical manifestation of K15 million worth of reasons why the top eight teams will be battling it out in this tournament,” Kasambala explained.
“As the days have been drawing closer to the kick-off of what will inarguably be one of the most exciting phases of football in the country, we have for the past months been busy drawing up and finalising a couple of promotional elements and facets of the Top 8 Cup that will not only engage and energise, but also inspire fans to be part of the action.”
To put the icing on the cake, the company also unveiled a theme song for the competition.
This is not all. Fans also have a chance to do a live commentary during half-time of any Top 8 match.
“The most unique offering being the Top 8 Commentator Challenge which is our way of celebrating talented and skilled fans who can conduct entertaining live commentaries for our Top 8 matches.
“We could not proceed with the kick-off without celebrating two of our brand’s key passion elements of music and sports. And so we proceeded to arrange an appropriate anthem for the inaugural Airtel Top 8 Cup,” Kasambala explained.
For fans to take part in the Top 8 Commentator Challenge—they will have to follow or like official Airtel Malawi Page on Facebook and look out for the “Top 8 Commentator” post that will be posted on the page.
Fans should post a 30-second voice note of a sample commentary of a football match done by themselves with the #Top 8 Live.
The Airtel Top 8 Cup theme song was produced by Alinafe Kalizang’oma (known as A K) and features urban artists Vube, Angie, Episodz and Chance.
The tournament will be officially launched at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday when Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers lock horns in a quarter-final first leg match.
