Gabadinho Mhango nets 4th goal in PSL

In-form Malawi national football team striker Gabadinho Mhango has registered his fourth league goal of the 2019 -2020, for his South Africa Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates.

Mhango was on target when Pirates came from behind to beat Polokwane City 3-2 at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday night.

The former Nyasa Big Bullets forward said that it was unfortunate that his club was struggling since the start of the season.

“Indeed I am a happy man but it was all to do with team work. We were down and things were not okay. We worked hard and we managed to win. It was not all to do individual performance but all in all it is always a wish to every striker to score goals when your team is struggling,” he said.

Mhango also scored vital goals for Pirates during the back to back Soweto derbies this year.

Former Flames defender, Clement Kafwafwa, said Mhango was now matured.

Kafwafwa commended Mhango for maintaining his scoring form for both his club and national team.

“This is what I have been saying in the past. A striker must score goals and help his club win matches. He managed to score in all high profile games for Pirates which was very important for a striker,” said the former Flames Team Manager.

According to one of South Africa’s online publications, both sides came into the fixture in shaky form, but it was Rise and Shine who broke the deadlock on 12 minutes as Charlton Mashumba lost his marker to head home a corner from Jabulani Maluleke.

Pirates were struggling to find openings despite going forward, but they were offered a lifeline nine minutes before the break with a penalty after Nicolas Motloung was judged to have handled inside the box, which allowed Mhango to fire home from 12-yards out.

The match conjured two red cards with City’s Puleng Tlolane and Pirate’s Thembinkosi Lorch receiving their marching orders in the first half.

The other goals for the Buccaneers came from Tshegofatso Mabasa and Kabelo Dlamini while Polokwane City grabbed the second goal through Mpho Mvelase.
