Gabadinho Mhango predicts Orlando Pirates comeback

Flames striker Gabadinho Mhango is confident that his new South African side Orlando Pirates can overturn the tables and progress to Caf Champions League first round.

The Soweto giants crashed to a 1-0 defeat to Green Eagles in Zambia in the first leg of the preliminary round match at Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday.

Mhango, who was involved in the match as a second half substitute, said Pirates could win comfortably at home and progress.

Mhango said he was happy to play in the Champions League, saying he was gaining experience.

“In the first place, I would like to thank the coach [Milutin Sredejovic] for giving me a chance to play. This really shows that he has confidence in me. We failed to score an away goal to utilise the away-goal rule but we are optimistic of a win at home,” he said.

The former Nyasa Big Bullets player also participated in the Caf competition while playing for Bidvest Wits.

Meanwhile, former Flames defender Clement Kafwafwa said Mhango should continue working hard to gain confidence of scoring goals.

“Playing in Caf Champions League is always good. I know playing away is not easy, but if Gaba settles fast at Pirates and continues the way he has started, I have no doubt that he would be a reliable player for Pirates,” Kafwafwa said.

Oth er Malawians that are plying their trade in South Africa— such as Gerald Phiri Junior, Richard Mbulu, Limbikani Mzava and Robert Ng’ambi—were not involved in Caf assignments over the weekend.

The second leg of the clash between Pirates and Eagles will take place on the weekend of August 23.
