Malawi national football team striker Gabadinho Mhango is set to return to action for his South Africa Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates after being declared fit.
Mhango has missed action for about four weeks after sustaining a groin injury during Pirates’ league match against Stellenbosch.
The former Bidvest Wits attacker was also ruled out for the Flames’ back-to-back 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burkina Faso last week.
Speaking Thursday from Johannesburg, Mhango said he returned to training on Tuesday after being given the green light by the club’s physicians.
“I am not yet at 100 percent but I will get there very soon. If the coach chooses to consider me for this weekend’s game, I will have no choice but to give out my best. It is my duty to help my team win matches,” he said.
Mhango welcomed the club’s new signings, saying this will make him a better player.
“I am not panicking. The new signings will bring competition. They will make me work harder as I compete for a place in the starting line up,” Mhango said.
Pirates recently announced the signing of Democratic Republic of Congo side AS Vita’s attacker Jean-Marc Makusu on loan to beef up their frontline.
