Gabadinho Mhango’s show for Bidvest Wits FC continued in the South Africa Premiership on Saturday night when he teased and tormented Cape Town City during the MTN8 semifinal, first leg.
Mhango scored the third and provided assists for Elias Pelembe and Eliezer Rodgers before walking off the pitch with a man-of-the match award worth K320,000 (R8,000).
It was his second accolade in three games this season. SuperSport television host, Robert Marawa, panelists, Siyabonga Nkosi and Jerry Sikhosana, hailed the Malawian’s persistence, split vision and technique.
“We wanted to score first in the early stages of the game and go behind the ball,” said in a post-match interview Mhango, who was sacrified in the dying minutes of the game after Wits’ goalkeeper, Moneeb Joseph, was red-carded for slapping an opponent.
In a league where the number of Malawian players is on the decline with the remaining ones struggling for game-time, the former Nyasa Big Bullets star is providing rare good news for Malawi in the PSL.
