Flames forward Gabadinho Mhango has again dismissed reports linking him with a switch from South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bidvest Wits to Kaizer Chiefs.
“I don’t have any idea about Chiefs because that is not my job. My agent will work on anything relating to my future. I’m a Wits player for now,” the former Nyasa Big Bullets player told South Africa’s Kick-Off website Tuesday.
Gabadinho had limited game-time for Wits last season but showed that he was still at his best when he led the Flames’ attack at the 2019 Cosafa Cup in Durban, South Africa.
“I’m grateful to have been part of this tournament [Cosafa]. I needed game-time since I was struggling last season, which is part of football. I needed this to do my best,” he is quoted as saying on www.kick-off.com.
Gabadinho, alongside Cosafa Cup Player-of the- Tournament Gerald Phiri Junior, top-scored at the regional competition with three goals in six games as the Flames reached the quarter-final for the first time since 2015.
On his club career, Gabadinho said it was not up to him to play regularly in Gavin Hunt’s side.
Wits exercised a one-year contract extension by a year on Gabadinho ahead of the expiry of his current three-year contract at the end of this month.
“It’s all up to the coach to play me. I’m ready for anything next season. I’m happy with what I have done here and it was a great tournament for me. Let us hope it will work in my favour.”
Gabadinho is among a few Malawians players in the PSL alongside Limbikani Mzava (Golden Arrows), Robert Ng’ambi (Black Leopards) and they would now be joined by Phiri and Richard Mbulu who have signed for Baroka FC.
