Malawi National Football Team striker Gabadinho Mhango has called for support from fans of his new South Africa DStv Premiership side AmaZulu ahead of the new season.

Mhango joined AmaZulu last month after a frustrating season at giants Orlando Pirates where he rarely featured.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants signed the former Nyasa Big Bullets superstar in a move aimed at reinforced their attacking department.

Mhango thanked AmaZulu fans for welcoming him and urged them to patronise the team’s matches in numbers.

“My message to the supporters, thank you for welcoming me and I am looking forward to seeing you guys at the stadium. Support the team and I know we will give you guys what you are looking for. Just come in numbers and support us in the stadiums,” he told AmaZulu’s website.

AmaZulu’s opening fixture of the 2022-23 season is against TS Galaxy on August 7. Usuthu will also compete in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

The team’s head coach Brandon Truter said his squad has what it takes to win a major trophy after joining the list of busy clubs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) transfer window by signing several players.

Besides Mhango, AmaZulu also signed Veluyeke Zulu, Riaan Hanamub, Thendo Mukumela, Dumisani Zuma, Augustine Kwem, Ethan Brooks, Rally Bwalya and George Maluleka.

Truter said some of the players he signed had won trophies and league titles before and would inspire the team in its hunt for silverware.

“With that culture and mindset rubbing off on the others, I don’t see why the club can’t be challenging for honours on all fronts this season.

“Yes, it’s a smaller squad, but we don’t have Africa [continental competition] to worry about this season. We want to get all these new players together and take one direction with one objective,” he told amazulu.co.za.

Truter is no stranger to success as he guided Swallows FC to South Africa’s 2019-20 National First Division title and will be hoping to deliver on a big stage.

Bwalya clinched the Tanzanian Premier League with Simba while Mhango won the MTN8 trophy with Pirates.

Maluleka also has a success story after lifting the PSL title with both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
