General Alliance insures Junior Cricket squad
General Alliance Insurance Limited has provided travel insurance policy to the national junior ladies’ cricket squad.
The 19-member team left yesterday for Botswana to take part in Region Five Under-19 Women’s Championship.
The limit of the policy for each player is 10,000 Euros (about K8 million).
General Alliance Insurance can spend about K152 million on the delegation.
General Alliance Insurance Limited Corporate Development Manager, Hastings Kapesa, said they offered the insurance policy to motivate the players.
“This is not the first time that we are offering travel insurance policy to a national cricket team,” he said.
“This year, we felt obliged to help because we realise the importance of the competition. This is the first time that the national junior ladies’ squad will compete in an international tournament, so we would like to motivate them.”
Malawi Cricket Union President, Vivek Ganesan, said the support was timely.
“This support is massive and it has come at the right time. We have all the reasons to produce results to impress stakeholders, including General Alliance Insurance for the support,” he said.
The squad will take on Zambia today, Mozambique tomorrow then South Africa on Saturday.
The team’s captain, Shahida Hussein, said they were looking forward to a successful competition.
“We have had good preparations so we have the confidence that we will do well,” he said.
