Genetrix Hockey Club of Blantyre has been invited to Zambia for an annual invitational tournament.
The tournament, which will also involve clubs from Zimbabwe and Zambia, is scheduled from September 28 to October 2.
However, Biya said his side does not have K3 million for the expenses of the trip to Zambia.
“We have started preparations and players have promised to bring it [the title] home. Last year, we failed to win the championship because we missed some games after arriving late at the tournament.
“As a club which is not sponsored, we are struggling to raise the money for the trip, but we hope that someone will bail us out. It is our humble request to companies and individuals to assist us,” Biya said.
Zimbabwe’s Hippo Valley are the defending champions of the competition which Genetrix won in 2014.
Being FMB Hockey League champions, Genetrix also qualified for Africa Cup Club Championship scheduled for December in Namibia.
“The invitational tournament also gives us a chance to prepare for the Club Championship. We also failed to make it to Namibia last year due to lack of funds.
“Companies can benefit by supporting hockey which offers brand-visibility. Genetrix is a big brand in hockey on the domestic scene and in Southern Africa,” Biya added.
