Genetrix prepare for Zambia trip

ZAMBIA-BOUND—Genetrix

By Ronald Mpaso:

Southern Region Hockey League giants Genetrix have budgeted K4 million for their trip to Zambia.

The team has been invited to this year’s Zambia Invitational tournament by Zambia Hockey Association.

Two other Malawian teams, Nyala and Braves, have also been asked to travel to Lusaka for the competition which will have participants from Zimbabwe and the hosting country.

Genetrix Coach, Geoff Biya, said the travelling teams would comprise men’s and ladies’ sides.

Biya said his team had drawn a budget of K4 million and would travel by road.

“We are ready to represent Malawi. The only challenge is availability of resources. We are going around hunting for well wishers to bail us out,” he said.

Biya said they had managed to source K350,000 from Consumables Centre while Donnas Eggs donated 20 cases of eggs and 30 chickens.

“We are grateful to the two entities for hearing our plea for help. We are appealing for more support so that the trip materialises,” he said.

Consumables Managing Director, Asad Jussab, said he made the contribution after noting that hockey lacks support from various sectors.

“Hockey is one of the country’s minority games and needs our support. It is my hope that other stakeholders will also help out,” Jussab.

Genetrix are expected to leave for Zambia on October 22 for the games which commence on October 24.
