Geoffrey Gondwe’s legacy will live on says Fam

FOOTBALL Association of Malawi (Fam) Second Vice President, Nathaniel Hara, has said the leadership legacy of the association’s former president, Geoffrey Gondwe, will live on.

Hara made the remarks after he attended the burial ceremony of the former fallen Fam leader at his Rumphi home on Tuesday.

Gondwe, 76, died on Saturday at Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital in Blantyre.

“He was a man who was blessed with leadership skills. Remember, he did not serve for Fam alone, but also for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations [as vice president]. It means he contributed to football not in Malawi only, but also in Southern Africa.

“So, he was a person we all, at Fam, looked up to in terms of advice. It is an undeniable fact that he contributed to the development of football in the country. And his legacy will always be alive at Fam,” Hara explained.

Gondwe served as Fam president until early 2000 when he was forced to step down.
