Chaponda, who faces arrest for contempt of court over his continued service as a cabinet minister despite a court order, is considered to be in contempt of court after attending a meeting in Germany as a cabinet minister from Malawi.
Chaponda who was scheduled to fly Malawi Airlines through Kamuzu International Airport, changed his itinerary in Johannesburg and landed at Chileka International Airport aboard South African Airline flight at around 12:30.
There was heavy presence of police officers both in civilian and riot gear as early as 10 o’clock in the morning at Chileka Airport.
The police snatched cameras from journalists who camped in wait at the airport.
