Delegates to the 2015 African Union Sports Council annual congress unanimously elected Malawi National Council of Sports executive secretary, George Jana, as general secretary for the body’s Region Five.
Jana said he was humbled to be entrusted with such a demanding position through the congress held in Luanda, Angola.
He described the appointment as a turning point in his career as a sports administrator since he would be in charge of a secretariat responsible for ten countries.
“I was really humbled to earn the confidence of delegates from 10 countries. It shows that they saw something in me. So, I will do all I can to live up to their expectations,” Jana said.
He observed that he would ensure that Malawi benefits from his position through various programmes that are in the offing.
At the time of being elected to this position, Jana was holding the position of the region’s vice chairperson.
He, then, hinted that Malawi would host the region’s Under-20 Games in 2022 in Lilongwe.
The Games are held in December every two years and hosts for this year are Angola.
