Malawi under-20 national football team Coach, Gerald Phiri senior, has gone for experience in his 28-member squad selection.

The Junior Flames are preparing for the Cosafa Youth Championship scheduled for Zambia in December.

According to a statement which Football Association of Malawi released yesterday, the junior Flames are scheduled to start training at Mpira Village in Blantyre Monday.

Phiri should be hoping for an improved display from his boys, who last year, during a similar tournament held in South Africa, fired blanks after failing to score in four games.

Little wonder, Phiri has maintained first-choice goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa, who now plays for Blantyre United, alongside other players from last year’s squad and the under-17 national team.

Notable players in the squad are Hadji Wali, Levison Maganizo and Kondwani Mwaila of Silver Strikers, Be Forward Wanderers’ Precious Sambani and Francisco Madinga.

Captain Mike Mkwate from Nyasa Big Bullets has also been retained alongside Griffin Young Stars’ attacker Peter Banda and Chitipa United’s Abel Mwakilama.
