Germany hints on sports experts

Germany says it remains committed to sending more sports experts and trainers to Malawi to strengthen the bilateral relationships between the two countries.

The Germany Ambassador to Malawi, Jurgen Borsch, made the remarks after donating sports equipment to Malawi through the Ministry of Youth and Sports at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Monday.

Borsch said the two countries enjoy a good working relationship.

“Our aim is to promote sports especially football in the country. As soon as we are getting back to normal, we want to send more experts and trainers to work on our bilateral relations in sports,” he said.

“We believe the donation will help to expose talent from all parts of the country.”

The ambassador donated 40 match balls, uniforms and whistles among others.

German Manfred Horne r worked as Football Association of Malawi (Fam) technical director and guided the Malawi under-20 team to Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ghana in 1998.

The donation has been possible with the support from Germany Football Association.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Ulemu Msungama hailed Germany for the timely assistance.

“The most important thing is that Germany has assured us that they will send more trainers to Malawi to help us build capacity for local football trainers,” he said.

Several local football coaches have undergone trainings in Germany including former Flames coach Kinnah Phiri, Audlow Makonyola and Deklerk Msakakuona.
