Gershom Chima, Regina Mwanza shine in National Bank golf
Seasoned golfer Gershom Chima won National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Golf Championship held at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 18, Chima earned himself bragging rights after finishing the competition with 41 points, followed by Francis Kambalame with 39 points.
Another seasoned golfer, Shawn Raman, claimed third position after collecting 38 points.
Budding golfer Christopher Mzokomera won the longest drive and nearest to pin in the men’s category.
In his victory speech, Chima said he was delighted to win the championship.
“I played good golf and I was in a relaxed mood from start to finish. I am happy because I defeated top golfers in the country,” he said.
In the women’s category, veteran golfer Regina Mwanza emerged champion with 43 points whereas Marie LeeCho and Maina Mkandawire came second and third, respectively.
Ekari Mvula won the longest drive.
Mwanza was also on cloud nine for winning the competition.
“It was a tough tournament but I was composed throughout the tournament,” Mwanza said.
NBM General Manager (Wholesale Banking), Harold Jiya, said the bank was overwhelmed with the response from golfers.
“We organised the tournament to interact and network with our customers. We believe golf is one of the ways to interact with the customers. We are really pleased with the huge turnout of golfers,” Jiya said about the competition, which attracted 150 golfers.
The bank also donated K350, 000 to LGC for maintenance of the greens.
