Blantyre-based writer Gertrude Gomani will on Saturday launch her book online titled Reminiscence: A Collection of 24 short stories.

She said that after the launch, people will have access to the book on Amazon and Book 265.

Gomani said she has two manuscripts now.

“There is this short story collection and a novel. I opted to start launching the short story collection so that I should monitor its reception on the market and then thereafter I will release the other book,” she said yesterday.

On Reminiscence: A Collection of 24 short stories, Gomani, said it comprises stories she has written since 2011 and that most of them were written during her college days from 2013 to 2016.

“The term Reminiscence was adopted because most of the stories in the collection [15 of them] were written during the seven months that The Polytechnic students were sent home when they attempted to oppose the out of proportion fee hike from K55,000 to K400,000,” she said.

Born and bred in Blantyre, Gomani started writing in 2009 while she was at Stella Maris Secondary School and took her writing passion to The Polytechnic where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting “I am happy to come out with this book and I hope people will access it once we launch and read the 24 stories. It has been an experience,” she said.

Gomani has published some of her short stories in Malawi News and Weekend Nation and some of the stories including At Wenela Bus Depot have made it in the collection of the 24 stories.

In his review, Geoffrey Nsanje, a lecturer in Communication at The Polytechnic, describes the book as a poignant portrayal of life in an African setting presented through artistic lens.

“Gertrude creates characters that are larger than life and presents their stories in a plot that is engaging,” Gomani said.

Gomani, who is currently studying Acca to become a chartered accountant works for PwC as an Audit Associate.
