Giants eye gems
TNM Super League giants, Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers are fighting to sign Malawi Under-20 National Football Team starlet, Peter Banda and Karonga United promising striker, Khumbo Msowoya.
United’s Chairperson, Alufeous Chipanga and Griffin Young Stars Coach, Griffin Saenda Jnr, confirmed the development last week. Super League of Malawi opened the transfer window on January 1, 2017.
Chipanga said the three teams approached him on the possibility of signing Msowoya.
“As of now, the race is between Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets. We talked with the two clubs at length, but we are still waiting for a good offer,” Chipanga said.
“I also had a talk with Premier Bet Wizards’ owner Peter Mponda who also wants this player. He is our top player and he helped us a lot in the just-ended season.”
Banda’s guardian, Saenda said apart from offers from South African clubs, Orlando Pirates, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Golden Arrows and other, local teams were also interested in the attacker.
Saenda Jnr said he would not rush into selling Banda as he still can play in the FMB Under- 20 League.
“The boy is not yet 18. He still has many years in the game. Yes, he is wanted by [Nyasa Big] Bullets and (Be Forward) Wanderers but we are still waiting to hear from Arrows and Pirates,” Saenda Jnr said.
Silver’s interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, confirmed talking to Karonga over Msowoya, adding that the striker will be invited for trials.
“We are beefing up our team and one of the players on our radar is Khumbo Msowoya. He is a great talent that can help us perform in the 2017 season,” Nyirenda said.
