Women’s football giants have consolidated top spots in the National Women’s Football League in their respective regions.
In the Central Region, giants DD Sunshine registered an 8-0 victory over Chilinde Queens.
Madyina Ngulube scored four goals whereas Gladys Banda, Chisomo Banda and Sabina Thom each scored a goal.
Sunshine have 18 points from six matches whereas Ascent Academy, who claimed a 5-1 victory over TC 11 FC, are second with 12 points from the same number of matches.
Skippers, who defeated Chisomo Academy 9-0, are third with 10 points whereas TC 11 are fourth with seven points. The first round is expected to be concluded this weekend.
Elsewhere, there was a goal galore in the Southern Region as Blantyre Zero defeated Sitima Yoce 14-0 whereas Ntopwa beat Bangwe Super Queens 3-0. Zero remain top of the log table with 18 points from six points, three above second-placed Ntopwa.
Up North, Topic Academy beat Chicago Sisters 6-0, with Thandi Bilima scoring all goals. Moyale Sisters beat MK Academy 1-0 thanks to Ida Kanthenga’s goal.
C.Y Sisters thrashed Gafu Sisters 22-0 to maintain top spot. C.Y have 18 points from six matches followed by Moyale on 15 points from the same number of matches.
National Women’s Football Association Chairperson Suzgo Ngwira was excited with this year’s competition.
“It is more organised now than never before. The new teams are also proving that they have a muscle. There is a lot of talent which is being identified everyday,” she explained.
