The country’s top four TNM Super League teams have pocketed K2.5 million in appearance fees for the Pamtsetse Top 4 Bonanza scheduled for Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe this weekend.

The four, Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Civil Service United, threatened to boycott the bonanza unless organiser, Nzika Flood Response, paid them by Thursday.

The organisers’ team leader Gift Nankhuni said they were looking forward to staging one of the biggest events in football this year.

“We have fulfilled what the clubs demanded. We are hopeful that we will achieve what we want through this bonanza. We therefore urge Malawians from all walks of life to come in large numbers and support us. We have organised this charity event to help fellow Malawians who are in need of help because of floods,” Nankhuni said.

Silver Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali confirmed that the organisers had fulfilled their promises.

“We are now ready to take part in the bonanza. We are fully geared to reach the competition’s final and grab the trophy. We have been in touch with the organisers right from the beginning and we are satisfied with what we agreed. We are almost done with preparations and our players are ready for the showdown,” Chimbali said.

Football Association of Malawi Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said all logistics to do with the bonanza would be completed today.

“We will have a clear picture of everything by Friday [today] afternoon when we meet with all the stakeholders,” Zakazaka said.

The bonanza rolls into action tomorrow with Mighty Wanderers taking on Civil in the opener before Silver take on Bullets later.

The final and third place matches are scheduled for Sunday. This will be the second time for Bullets and Silver to meet in a week after the Charity Shield match last weekend.

Bullets lifted the shield after a 1-0 victory at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
