Giants U-turn on police
Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers have U-turned on their decision against involving stewards and the police in today’s Blantyre derby at Kamuzu Stadium.
During a preparatory meeting held on Thursday, the Blantyre giants accepted Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and stakeholders’ proposal to deploy 140 police officers and 160 stewards during the game.
“The meeting further agreed to use an attendance register to verify the number [of the security personnel],” Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, said on Thursday.
“Malawi Police Service was represented by the Urban Commanding Office [a Soko] and senior police officers who ably responded to the concerns and promised to provide maximum security to the spectators.”
Earlier, the Blantyre giants accused the stewards and the police of not doing enough to arrest ring leaders of violence, saying teams were sick and tired of being fined due to the inefficiencies of the security organs.
