Giddes Chalamanda, Edgar ndi Davis to kickstart Cockpit’s year
The year 2017 might have already wasted its three months. But Cockpit Lounge’s year has not started. It will start on April 2 with performances from Giddes Chalamanda and the inseparable duo, Edgar ndi Davis.
Defying his age, Giddes is not showing any signs of frailty. As confirmed by Davis Njobvu who, together with Edgar Kachere, has been performing with Giddes for a long time, the acoustic maestro seems strong to strum his guitar until the last joule of energy in his fingers.
According to Cockpit Lounge’s Public Relations Manager, Tasha Maluza, they considered the legendary musician because his music is still relevant and he remains one of the finest acoustic musicians in Malawi.
“We wanted to bring some entertainment for the older generation so that they too can enjoy the best that Cockpit offers. Cockpit was established to reach a diverse clientele in Malawi,” Maluza said.
Maluza said Cockpit will always ensure that every entertainment need of its client is met.
Speaking on behalf of Giddes, Davis said the 88-year-old musician Giddes is a natural performer whose talent has withstood the trials of time.
“Giddes will perform until he can no longer perform. It is what he enjoys and performing makes him who he is. I cannot imagine how he would live without music,” he said.
Davis said Giddes is part of their family and they will always be there to support him.
“Giddes is a darling of the people. We thank God that He opened our eyes to identify Giddes as someone who needed the platform to showcase his magic. We grew in stature as a band because of Giddes and we have learnt a lot from interacting with Giddes. For us to be where we are, it is because other people lifted us. It is part of the teachings of Christianity that we must love one another,” he said.
