Giddes Chalamanda’s Coming to America concerts on the cards

Veteran musician Giddes Chalamanda is a happy man now that his dream of visiting United States of has been realised.

“I am very happy and I just say God should bless all those who are supporting this, I am looking forward to seeing America,” he said.

Friends of the old-timer, who include Blantyre City Mayor Noel Chalamanda, have been up and down fundraising for the trip to come to fruition.

The veteran musician famed for the hit ‘Che Meli’ and ‘Liny,’ has a song titled ‘Buffalo Soldier,’ which he claims reggae maestro Bob Marley stole from him.

He said he was the first to compose the song in which he says “if he had much money he would go to America where he has heard that everyone there is very rich.”

It is in this vein that friends of the veteran musician decided to do something and make sure that the musician realises the dream of seeing America.

The legendary musician will perform in USA in July during Independence Day and is expected to go with Edgar ndi Davis Band and Patience Namadingo.

According to Emmanuel Maliro, they are making positive steps to raise enough for the trip.

They have since organised fundraising concerts starting tomorrow at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre where people will enjoy the performances of Giddes, Patience and Edgar ndi Davis Band at only K5,000.

From Blantyre, the concert goes to Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe where people will also pay K5,000 and then March 26 at Gymkhana Club in Zomba with the entry fee at K2,00
