Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has expressed satisfaction with the just ended Fisd Challenge Cup semi-final matches that saw nine goals being scored.

Blue Eagles booked a ticket to the final of the cup after beating Silver Strikers 4-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday whereas Kamuzu Barracks thrashed giant killers Hangover United 4-1 at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday.

Fam Competitions Director, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said this was the first time for semi-final matches to register such a high number of goals in recent years.

“This is something very unusual for the two semi-finals matches to produce such goals. It has never happened for the past years but this has clearly indicated that all the four teams were determined to play with their lungs out,” he said.

He said Fam will come up with a decision on the way forward as regards the Eagles and Silver match which was abandoned after fans continued to throw missiles onto the pitch.

“Indeed, we had some hiccups during the match between Eagles and Silver but I would like to assure all soccer fans that Fam will issue its decision and proper measures will be taken. Shortly, will also announce the actual date and venue where the final match of the competition will be staged,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eagles prolific attacker Schumacher Kuwali is the cup’s leading scorer chart with four goals.

In the round-of-16, Kuwali scored a goal that helped the cops to boot out Mafco with a 2-0 victory.

Kuwali scored a brace to help the in-form Eagles to send Moyale packing in the quarter-finals, courtesy of a 2-0 win.

Kuwali was also scored once on Saturday when they beat Silver to advance to the final.
